ORIENTAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE

About Us

Established in 1939 by the management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Oriental Research Institute was transferred to Sri Venkateswara University in 1956 to expand its scope and modernize its operations. Comprising two wings – the Research Wing and Library Wing – we house a vast collection of manuscripts and printed books.

Our Library boasts an impressive collection of 16,948 manuscripts and 50,000 printed books. Each publication is thoughtfully selected to support the research endeavors of our institute, covering various facets of Indian tradition.

Our Objectives

At Oriental Research Institute, our primary goals encompass the following:

  1. Advancing Knowledge: We aim to advance knowledge through our dedication to study, teaching, research, and publication. By engaging in extensive research activities, we contribute to the spread of accurate ideas about Hindu religion and religious ideals.

  2. Building a First-Rate Oriental Library: We are committed to establishing and maintaining an exceptional Oriental Library. Equipped with the latest resources and staffed with knowledgeable professionals, our library provides students at all levels with the necessary tools for studying, conducting research, and delving deeper into their areas of interest.

  3. Undertaking and Publishing Critical Editions: In collaboration with esteemed scholars, we undertake critical editions of texts and other Oriental studies that shed light on Indian culture and religion. Through our official publication, the Oriental Journal, we disseminate valuable insights and contribute to the academic discourse.

These catalogues will include descriptive information about each manuscript, allowing for better organization and accessibility. Additionally, the ORI Library will maintain a manuscripts library, complete with comprehensive lists and descriptive catalogues, to further promote the dissemination of inter-disciplinary research.
